Lunar Lion is one of only eighteen remaining teams.

Lunar Lion is the only university team in the entire competition.

Even without context that all sounds cool, right? Right. So what’s the context?

The Google Lunar X PRIZE

Not heard of GLXP?  It’s one of the Google XPRIZE Foundation’s challenges and in order to win a non-government team has to get to the moon by the end of 2015.

Lunar Lion hails from Penn State and is one of the eighteen remaining teams. It consists primarily of kids without degrees (undergraduates) with side of grad students. Ya know, all of those millennials who’ve been ragged on so hard by the mainstream media as of late.

With a spot reserved on a rocket and some thrusters test fired, Lunar Lion is well on its way to soaring to the moon. But the biggest challenge for the team remains: funding. Money is such a pesky thing.

And that, our dear fellow Tumblrers, is where we come in. \o/

On January 20th Lunar Lion kicked off its first crowdfunding campaign on RocketHub. The goal is monies. Lots of monies.  Because getting to the moon is totes expensive. Russia, the USA, and now China are the only folks to have done this. (We hear ya. Like wut? Only three?!?)

So obvis, we’re asking for donations here!  The min donation is $10 for a sparkling and fab digital membership. But, if you have the bigger bucks lying around, you could have your name engraved in gold on the lander!!

Agreed, little dudes.  Agreed.

We understand that money doesn’t grow on trees. (Donate) But don’t you want to be a part of history? Don’t you want to be part of what could be our generation’s Apollo 11 moment?

The cheapest option by far is reblogging and posting.  Basically getting the word out like we’re doing. (Donate)

And tweeting.
And Youtubing.
And Google+ing.
And Instagramming.

Because STUDENTS are sending a lander to the MOON, which is pretty damn awesome.  And you can help! :D

This doesn’t say much, but in general and  throwing numbers, a full box of square donuts has more donut per donut than a full box of round donuts.The interesting thing is knowing exactly how much more donut per donut we have. Assuming first a small center hole (R2 = R1/4) and replacing in the proper expressions, we have a 27,6% more donut in the square one (Round: 15πR12/16 ≃ 2,94R12, square: 15R12/4 = 3,75R12). Now, assuming a large center hole (R2 = 3R1/4) we have a 27,7% more donut in the square one (Round: 7πR12/16 ≃ 1,37R12, square: 7R12/4 = 1,75R12). This tells us that, approximately, we’ll have a 27% bigger donut if it’s square than if it’s round.
tl;dr: Square donuts have a 27% more donut per donut in the same space as a round one.

Neat" faux meat: original, italian and mexican flavors. Just mix with egg replacement (eg. vegg) and water then saute for 7 minutes.

… why are there surface integrals and quantum mechanics in the background of that Tofurky ad…… somehow this is making me want it even more….. i think i am in the .01% of people for whom this marketing strategy actually works….

(unrelated: i wanted to say something profound about how this episode is worth watching for anyone who’s ever grieved over losing someone… but i just don’t think i have the words. grief is a very private thing, so it’s unusual to see it presented like this… but it’s not unwelcome.)
